Understanding the New Royal Decree 933/2021: What It Means for Tourism

The Royal Decree 933/2021, effective since December 2, 2024, has introduced significant changes for the tourism industry in Spain. As a company specializing in event management and corporate travel, we’re here to clarify what this means for you and how we’re staying ahead of the curve.

Key Highlights of the Regulation:

  1. Enhanced Data Collection:
Accommodation and car rental services are now required to collect more detailed personal data, including:

    • Full name, ID/passport number, nationality, and address.
    • Contact information and, in some cases, family relationship details.
  2. Data Storage and Security:
This information must be securely stored for three years and communicated to the Ministry of the Interior to support public security efforts. Businesses are mandated to implement robust security measures to prevent unauthorized access.

  3. Cancellation and Reservation Changes:
New deadlines and stricter rules for cancellations and rooming-list modifications may require additional planning and communication.

  4. Penalties for Non-Compliance:
Fines of up to €30,000 may be imposed for failing to meet these new obligations.
